Jóna Edvalds was built at the Flekkefjord shipyard in Norway in 1975. The vessel previously had the names Birkeland, Björg Jónsdóttir and Krossey, and in 2004 it was sent to Poland for major remodelling and repairs, which also included a new main engine and bridge. In 2008 its freezing units were replaced and RSW cooling systems installed in the ship’s hold. Jóna Edvalds carries out pelagic fishing for herring, capelin and mackerel. Its skippers are Jóhannes Danner and Sigurdur Bjarnason, and its chief engineers are Gunnar Egill Saevarsson and Ragnar Björnsson.
